The CarolMarie is a 1980 Hans Christian 38 MKII designed by Harwood Ives and built in Shin Fa Shipyards. The Hans Christian 38 MkII is a traditional heavy displacement double-ender, with a large bowsprit and a cutter rig. For greater speed, the beam was carried further forward and aft, the bottom sections flattened and the turn of the bilge was tightened. Interestingly the forefoot to the keel was made shallower and the rudder placed further aft being shielded on both top and bottom with an iron bridge. The mast was moved 12 inches forward, and to improve light air performance the rig was three feet taller than her sister design the HC38T; thus allowing her to carry 11% more canvas.
